Auralisation#
Playback#
From INSUL Version 7.0, it's possible to listen to the predicted sound reduction.
Using, for instance, headphones plugged into the computer sound output, it's possible to click on a simulation of sound on the source side of the wall, then on the receiver side of the wall. This provides a very interesting tool for listening to the effect of different walls.
- Click on the
button to hear a simulation of the noise in the source room. - Click on the
button to hear a simulation of the sound on the receiver side of the wall which gives an indication of the sound reduction of the wall or ceiling.
It is important to be aware that the accuracy of the simulation will depend on the frequency response of the audio reproduction (playback) system and the background noise level. For example, demonstrating differences in low-frequency performance with headphones may be quite ineffective. Likewise, trying to listen to the effect of very high-performance walls may be impossible if the background noise is not very low.
Source Settings#
Go into Settings
to adjust settings on the source side of the construction.
There are several sources available, such as white noise, pink noise and speech. These are WAV files and are stored in a sub-folder. The user can add more WAV files to this folder and build up a library of sounds.
Tip
The Ramp-up time can also be adjusted to control the onset of the source sound.

Receiver Settings#
Again go into settings
to adjust settings on the receive side of the construction.
The Output Gain on the receiver side of the construction can be adjusted. This can be helpful when considering the effects of systems with significant sound reduction, for which it may be difficult to hear sound on the receive side, particularly if the listening environment has a high level of background noise (see above).
