Charts & Tables#

Summary results for an INSUL model are provided above the INSUL Illustration as an octave band table and an overall index value such as, for example, STC, Rw, IIC and dBA.

More detailed model results are presented in the INSUL Charts and Table, in the lower right-hand section of the INSUL window.

Chart#

The INSUL Chart displays predicted sound levels in one-third octave bands.

Legend

The INSUL Chart includes a legend which displays the name of each curve shown on the chart and, where applicable, its single figure index (STC/Rw, Ln,w/IIC, dBA/NR/NC/PNC)

Reference spectra can be added to the chart using the INSUL Table, as described below.

Reference and Comparison series titles, which display in the Chart legend, can be edited by selecting Edit > Chart... > Series labels...

Lab max (ISO 10140-5)

The INSUL Chart includes a pink-shaded region called Lab max (ISO 10140-5).

It is shown on the Chart when modelling sound insulation on the Wall, Ceiling, Glazing and Porous tabs.

Lab max (ISO 10140-5) provides an indication of typical maximum R' values in a laboratory.

If predicted sound insulation values from an INSUL model are near to or lie within the pink-shaded region, then it's more likely that laboratory sound insulation test data for that system could be affected by flanking transmission.

Specifically, the lower threshold values of the pink-shaded region are taken from Table A.1 Typical values of R´max in a laboratory for testing walls and floors of type C from ISO 10140-5:2021.

The standard provides the following remarks about the values in the table:

Table A.1 give typical values of R'max for the laboratory capable of measuring walls and floors of type C having values of Rw up to 55 dB. The values in Table A.1 are for example only and should not be regarding as target values.

Note, type C in the standard is refers to heavyweight concrete floors.

Table#

The INSUL Table displays predicted one-third octave band sound levels in tabular form.

InsulTable.png

Reference spectra can be added to the INSUL Table for display on the INSUL Chart.

Data can be copied and pasted to and from the Table.

  • Click TableCopyButton.png to copy a selected range of cells from the Table
  • Click TablePasteButton.png to paste data into the Table
  • Reference spectra data can also be typed into the INSUL Table directly

Floor Cover Chart#

If the Floor tab is selected from the INSUL Construction Tabs, then INSUL Charts & Table panel includes a Floor Cover Chart, which presents one-third octave band data for the reduction in impact sound pressure levels from the floor cover selected in the Floor Cover Products list.
